I confirm this issue in the version of Firefox currently distributed with Ubuntu 10.10. In my case this started happening when I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. I have been using firefox on both widows and now on ubuntu and it had never happened untill recently . It is not normal , I click on pages and they load and then browser freezes , no clicks work except minimize and when id minimise it hangs the screen. Also wanted to know why when I play files on youtube and play a video from my system the Youtube video overlays(see,n in the background) in my mplayer?.
