I've the very same problem. Even if I user ldapsearch or thunderbird, it connects fine. Only from evolution fails. No, it's an unencrypted connection. I almost suspected the firewall, but I'm able to add new entries to the LDAP address book via Evolution, and Evolution also recognizes the search base. I've attempted to setup an LDAP address book on another Ubuntu computer running Natty i386.
