Bug 897131 is the accurate bug for my case - xinput/device driver issue
with the touchpad on Thinkpad.

[Bug 804929] Re: Alt+middle click doesn't resize windows

2012-02-05 Thread Fredrik Wendt
I've just realized that I'm partially affected by this. USB/peripheral pointing
devices seems to work, but the middle mouse button on the touchpad on my
Thinkpad T410 doesn't behave like left and right mouse buttons when I look at
it in xev.
With left and right mouse buttons ButtonPress and ButtonRelease events
happens/are fired as the physical button is pressed/depressed.
With the middle mouse button I get both events "at the same time" (in right
order) UNLESS I do a long press which essentially swallows both events, making
xev sit there with nothing to report. Incredibly annoying.

Not sure about that. Behavior is not as I expect.

Installing gconf-defaults-service made it work for me. This package was
brought in when i installed gconf-editor.

Soren, I apologize. I misread the bug report and wasn't aware of
Alt+middle click. However, Alt+middle click works for me for resizing
with Gnome Shell 3.1.3.

2011-08-09 Thread Soren Hansen
..Alt-Middle click is what I've used for year and years to resize
windows. Nowadays, when I middle click on a window (regardless of
whether I hold down Alt or not), the pointer stops moving and lets me
scroll up and down instead.

Alt-left click "picks up" the window and lets you move it.

The common shortcut is Alt+left click and it works here. Please reopen
