After spending 2 days trying all sort of kernel boot options, I finally decided to take one last desperate attempt to get Ubuntu running, and boldly flashed the BIOS with the newest firmware. I've tried Ubuntu Dapper, Edgy and Feisty on my dc7700p, and nothing really works. The OS eventually installs, but I get the following: * the OS takes up to 15 minutes to boot * weird graphics artifacts during boot * the primary NIC fails to load * load messages that indicate 'load essential driversFAIL' * messages that the HAL has failed to load (!) * both CPUs are at full capacity most of the time, so the systems is dog-slow (hence 15-minute boot time) * opening applications eventually times out (possibly CPU too busy) In general, the system is not really usable.
