im running 2.6.20-13 and dma and 32bit IO cannot be enabled on my SATA drives (HDD and DVD). hdparm fails with: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo hdparm -c1 -d1 /dev/scd0 /dev/scd0: setting 32-bit IO_support flag to 1 HDIO_SET_32BIT failed: Invalid argument setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) Can hdparm really be used for SATA drives?? I installed sdparm and it looks like this utility is more suited to SATA, but I cannot find out how to enable 32bit IO, and it looks like DMA is already enabled anyway on SATA drives. just to add, maybe this performance is ok, but when watching movies from CD which shows as /dev/scd0, playback is very choppy. You need to attach the dmesg output using the web interface (do no paste into comment).
