Public bug reported:

After attempting to install simple-ccsm (which also failed, something
with compiz-core), Ubuntu Software Center crashed.

I was told to update the following packages:
software-center app-install-data apt apt-utils glib-networking initramfs-tools 
initramfs-tools-bin libcups2 libpam-modules libpam-modules-bin libpam0g 
libplymouth2 perl-base plymouth python-apt python-apt-common python-gobject 
tzdata ubuntu-sso-client x11-common

And then initramfs-tools failed to update.

Notice that I use Ubuntu from a USB drive (Persistent yes)
