The fact that I found a work around involving changing which USB port I plugged a mouse into doesn't actually fix the underlying software bug. I suppose it's possible that in the 2.5 years since I reported the bug, it was fixed elsewhere and thus closing the bug is appropriate. It's not clear why you think the bug report is invalid though. This is a persistent problem for me. Brand new box (but existing peripherals), clean install of Oneiric (updated regularly). I have a keyboard on the PS/2 socket, mouse and Wacom tablet on USB sockets at the rear of the case. I believe I may have the same issue, in Oneiric. When the mouse stops working, I can still use my Wacom tablet pen to move the cursor, but the touchpad is non-responsive. I think that the screensavers were a red herring. In fact, my mouse was plugged into my monitor and thus was being disconnected and reconnected whenever I turned the monitor off and back on. I was only doing this when I would leave for an extended period of time, hence the correlation with locking the screen for hours. Given that this started immediately after upgrading to 11.04, I'm inclined to think it's a software issue. Further, it's not that the mouse stops working, but rather, it stops working in a single X session. As I wrote, using startx to start a second gives me a working mouse.
