[Bug 825775] Re: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ
I have the exact same issue, and I log on 3 IRC server that each will cast various message upon connection. Problem is that server notification are important and we cannot just ignore them all at once. Maybe at first a little generic plugin that allows to ignore a message matching 1 - regexp and 2 - the nickname issuing the message. This could eventually serve other purpose. And would silence those connection message without silencing other services message. The other way to see this would be NOT to ignore the message but prevent them from triggering notification. Anyway, I don't see gnome integrating such "feature" in their everlasting simplification (which as long past the boundaries of evilness for me...) ... A plugin seems to me the only hope. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825775 Title: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/825775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 825775] Re: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ
Yesterday i enable the sound notification of my system... and this morning Nickserv wakeup me one more time... Then men, iv got the solution, you can disable the sound notifications. Trust me, it fix this bug. BTW i receive 10-15 messages from nickserv per days, it is really annoying, but fortunatly i only join one IRC server.
I agree with you Max, and we shouldn't have to get used to it. @Bilal Empathy and xchat are quite different. Xchat is just an IRC client and when you go there you expect IRC windows to be opened when you join a particular room. Empathy, on the other hand has a general log in to all IM channels the user has defined and is not at that time joining a particular room. Maybe Empathy should defer logging in to IRC servers until the user joins a room.

I am also annoyed by this behaviour. While I accept it is not a bug, just saying that it is the same behaviour for other clients is, imo, disingenuous. Does empathy not want to be *better* than other clients at all? It seems clear to me from personal experience, and from others' comments, that this behaviour gives a quite poor user experience. As such, it would be good if it could be improved. I could imagine, for example, that a feature could be added to run a set of commands for each channel, so that you can add '/ignore nickserv' ...or perhaps it is already fixed/workedaround somehow? as you see that when we get online on irc through xchat oe gnome-xchat it also send same that message there as well if you click on freenode you can read it in the last.mostly people don't notice it, thats the message from the server not the empathy issue. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825775 Title: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/825775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 825775] Re: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ
I find this irritating as well. All accounts have a log in procedure. It is only IRC that has a chat window opened, but it is a clearly defined procedure where Empathy gives a password in response to a chat message. Empathy is already doing something special with these messages from NickServ, so I don't see why it shouldn't close the chat window after the 'You are now identified for ' message.

I also find this annoying. Steps to reproduce: 1) connect to the freenode server with your username 2) the message indicator will immediately turn blue and indicate a new message But this message is only NickServ telling you that you are now identified etc. So you have to click on NickServ to bring up its window to silence it. This is somewhat annoying and may prevent other messages from being noticed, because the message indicator is blue as long as you don't click it... This happens with latest empathy in precise. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825775 Title: Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/825775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
