With the latest updates, LightDM starts with the Driver activated, and compiz runs as expected. I've tried all nvidia drivers, including direct downloads from the website. Nothing works. I haven't tried installing gdm and using that instead, however. May be worth a shot. Reassigning to X org as this appears to be a driver issue. LightDM should run a failsafe session on this failure, but this is another bug.
