[Bug 831049] Re: no audio

2011-08-23 Thread rafe101
Thanks for your help. I am using the onboard soundcard. When I'm
checking levels in the pulseaudio volume apps I sometimes get strange
errors. If I start the volume app then open a video in VLC, VLC will
sometimes say it couldn't initialize a soundcard, but the meters in the
pulseaudio volume app show activity for VLC. If I open VLC first, the
Pulseaudio volume program will often say it has no connection.

I will attach my alsa-info as you asked.

[Bug 831049] Re: no audio

2011-08-23 Thread rafe101
So far I have tried the headphone jack, different speakers in the
speaker jack, headphones in the speaker jack and I just went and bought
an HDMI cable to see if there was anything coming out that way. It is
still dead silent.

It is not dead silent. After switching VLC's output device in Pulseaudio
settings to use HDMI, I can get little pops and scratches.

2011-08-23 Thread rafe101
I still can't get any analog audio to work, but when I first log in I
have a few seconds of HDMI audio then pauses in the audio start to
appear and after a few more seconds I just have occasional pops and
bursts of sound.

[Bug 831049] Re: no audio

I have turned everything up in Alsa-mixer. I have taken out the new
capture card. I have done everything I can think of but I still get no
sound. I just can't figure this out.

Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo. I presume you're
trying to use the internal audio card for playback?
