[Bug 83209] Re: system-preferences-sound crash after I click 'Test' next to Sound Capture in the Devices tab.
After installing those debug packages, the crash report gdb instance crashes, so instead here is the initial crash file and a basic run of gdb. If you would like me to add any commands to gdb, let me know what those are. I've found a shorter reproduction that actually causes the sound properties to hang rather than sigterm. 1. Open Sound Properties. 2. Test second "VIA 8237" Sound Capture device. 3. Select first "VIA 8237" device (don't run test). 4. Select second "VIA 8237" device again. The program instantly hangs the instant I re-select the second device and must be killed since it doesn't crash. Here is the debug output in which I followed the other reproduction steps where I test both devices: GNU gdb 6.4.90-debian Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc. debuild was a successes finally. I had problems with libxss: for some reason debuild thought I had version from feisty. Strange... Anyway after installing from packages.ubuntu.com a proper version build was OK. Backtrace generated. Looks like recurrence problem in libgstreamer. Any more help needed? [Bug 83209] Re: system-preferences-sound crash after I click 'Test' next to Sound Capture in the Devices tab.
I have also experienced this crash. While trying to find the right device, I selected ALSA and tested it which produced no sound, then I selected VIA 8237 (one of two in the list), hit test again and it crashed. The crash report took nearly an hour to build at which point I had already found the right sound device and had watched some video and a few songs. I figured an hour of 90% cpu on my 2.4ghz was a waste if I didn't report this. ** Attachment added: "gdb crash report" http://librarian.launchpad.net/6495438/_usr_bin_gnome-sound-properties.1000.crash -- system-preferences-sound crash after I click 'Test' next to Sound Capture in the Devices tab. https://launchpad.net/bugs/83209 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
