[Bug 834476] Re: siletransfer to usb drive very slow in ubuntu 11.04
I think I'm getting this one too. USB transfers to flash drives are very slow. Disk Utility reports the various drives I've tried are connected at 480Mb/s, but it's rare to see transfers faster than 60-70Mb/s at best. Sometimes I get the first 300MB very fast followed by very slow and ending with a long pause while the write buffer writes out, sometimes they're just very slow from the start. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm transferring one big file or lots of little files. Precise, AMD64. Also occurring with bleeding edge kernel (which I'm using because anything younger won't suspend right on my machine), 3.5.0-999-generic #201207280406 SMP Sat Jul 28 08:07:29 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Does not happen on same machine booted into either Windows 7 or Fedora 17 - there I can write at upwards of 250Mb/s easily. Haven't tried latest quantal image yet, but will do shortly. Toshiba L830-114. lspci -vv -nn attached. Let me know if there's anything more I can do. ** Attachment added: lspci-vv-nn.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/834476/+attachment/3245386/+files/lspci-vv-nn.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834476 Title: siletransfer to usb drive very slow in ubuntu 11.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/834476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is just what I expected, nice job, :-) I have tried to capture the usbmon results as per the instruction. this what i have listened on all the serial buses and the out is named 1.mon.out thanks I only had a glance at the trace, and found some transfer is very slow, see below: The slowest one(maybe) takes about 706ms to transfer only 120K bytes to your usb mass storage disk: /*CB: send out WRITE10 command*/ 8800b1fb2780 3396606803 S Bo:2:004:2 -115 31 = 55534243 2522 00e00100 0a2a 4cdf c8f0 00 8800b1fb2780 3396607106 C Bo:2:004:2 0 31 /*DATA: write out 120K bytes to usb mass storage disk*/ 880093a52480 3396607143 S Bo:2:004:2 -115 122880 = 30317762 1000 18752006 e001 30306463 00772006 5d05 880093a52480 3397313202 C Bo:2:004:2 0 122880 /*CS: get the ack from device*/ 8800b1fb2780 3397313366 S Bi:2:004:1 -115 13 8800b1fb2780 3397313583 C Bi:2:004:1 0 13 = 55534253 2522 00 Also there are other more slow transfers, see [1]. From 1.3 and 1.4, CPU takes long time to get CS, and looks like it is very odd, maybe some device driver disabled irq for long time, so some suggestions for you: - someone reported realtek wifi driver may disable irq for long time sometime, so please disable your wifi and do the file transfer test to see if there are any improvements. - if no improvements, run the tests below to post the reports: dd if=/dev/null of=/media/udisk bs=120K count=1K /media/udisk is the mount point of your usb mass storage disk, please be careful to do the tests since it may destroy your data in usb disk. Re: [Bug 834476] Re: siletransfer to usb drive very slow in ubuntu 11.04
Hi, On Wed, Sep 7, 2011 at 12:53 AM, Ganesh 834...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Dear Ming lei, I am new to linux and ubuntu I have tried to follow the instruction as given by the link you have provided hope this is what is expected from my side i will be happy to hear from you if this is not how it is done plz suggest.
