@louis:
This may be a duplicate of the following:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/881542

This has already been fixed by Stephane and should be in the proposed kernel (
 Ubuntu-2.6.32-37.80)
Please test with the proposed lucid kernel and see if it fixes the issue.

[Bug 838177] Re: [Lucid] New version of kernel cannot do migration between two XenServers

2011-11-10 Thread Louis Bouchard
@Stefan,

Following our discussion, here are some details :

The action of migration is done in XenCenter which is a management tool
to manage XenServer in GUI.

There are 2 (or more) XenServers in a pool, and a storage shared by all
XenServers in this pool.

HDD of VM is put in the shared storage, then run VM on XS-1.

When we do the migration, just right click on VM in XenCenter, choose
Migrate to Server and choose another XenServer like XS-2.

Then the VM will be migrated from XS-1 to XS-2.

Actions above are what we do when we want to do VM migration.

This is a test for VM availability when XenServer migrate VMs
automatically, if VM didn't work well after first migration, VM will
crash and XenServer can't work further jobs.

Hope that this can help.

[Bug 838177] Re: [Lucid] New version of kernel cannot do migration between two XenServers

2011-10-25 Thread Stefan Bader
The data provided in comment #27 is a bit confusing. The overview
reports amd64 server kernel, while the dmesg is from an i386 generic-pae
guest (and I think HVM).

So can we clarify the guest setup that shows the problem (architecture,
HVM or PVM)? Also is it possible to have a simple procedure to do a
simple migration? Is it just xm save and xm restore on the other server?
Is the second server necessary or can the same issue be re-created with
only one server.

If the xen version I saw in the log (3.4.2) is correct I have a system local
that may be close enough and it would help to be able to re-create it there as
that allows me access through dom0.
There is one patch pending in the 2.6.32.y queue that fixes some issues with
enabling interrupts and that could be related. Unfortunately the difference
between some working kernel versions and non-working sometimes was completely
out of the scope that normally should affect the Xen migration, so it feels
like a highly timing related issue. Which makes verifying whether a specific
patch solves anything rather hard.
