Tim, was the original bug _after_ configuring the driver to use the external monitor (with amdcccle), or do you get the error when first plugging in the vga? Changing anything in amdcccle causes it to crash with no errors output to screen or cli. @Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) if by radeon you mean the default opensource drivers, yes it does work. amdcccle crashes everytime I hit apply! This is ridiculus! I upgraded to 11.10 and lost my dual monitor setup. I was suffering from the same problem and I found a workaround on this blogpost: http://blog.jvc26.org/2011/09/29/multimonitor-ubuntu-oneiric- fglrx (thanks jvc26) It seemed quite logical, however, what I noticed was if I started amd control centre from the dash, it would always crash if I pressed "apply" but if you type in your terminal: gksudo amdcccle (yes three c's not, two like in the blogpost) then it does allow you to apply the changes and from now on I don't have any problems. I'm using ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics card.
