That won't change. Omer: Ok, I guess by discoverable, you mean an interface that could be totally used without any help whatsoever. If so, firstly this does *not* stop you from adding an option for the Natty way. Secondly, a much better approach to this discoverability problem, is to include a demonstration welcome tutorial in help, and have a shortcut to this on the desktop of the LiveCD and fresh installs / new accounts. The welcome demo should include some speech talking the user around the major parts of the system, but should not include any video due to CD/download size constraints. Instead of video, the welcome demo should highlight, activate or animate parts of the interface it wants to draw attention to. Adding to comment above, the discoverable point is totally clear, but making button at the top panel optional is pretty reasonable, it was comfortable, took less space (vertical space on display is expensive) and it is actually more natural for Gnome 3 users. Let this big dash button in the side panel (as it is done right now) by default, but please give us an option to change this behavior. Actually, I don't understand why to take out smart hide feature of the side panel too. I'm still using Natty. I was thrilled when I first saw Unity. I loved how, at the intersection of the panel/menubar and the Unity Launcher, was resided the Dash Home button showing off the Ubuntu logo. Using CCSM, it's easily configured such that the icons aren't excessively big and clumsy, revealing Unity's hidden elegance. It was perfection! I was shocked when I saw Oneiric and I'm still shocked. That there wasn't even an option to revert the ugliness that Unity had become. Not even in the Unity plugin in CCSM. Not even in gconf/dconf. Not even in some config file hidden away somewhere. Let alone a nice, user-friendly preference in system settings! Really, this sleek corner-button should have stayed the default with no need for a 'sleek-style' preference.
