My issue was with a similar, but not 100% identical, motherboard/cpu. I got a similar problem, but without flashes. Installing a Dapper Drake i386 Server Edition on a VIA EPIA M1 goes fine, but at the first reboot the kernel hangs just after the Uncompressing linux Ok, booting the kernel line. I tried stripping quiet and splash options from the command line, but I don't get anything more after the booting the kernel. I have this problem with the kernel image that came from the install cd (linux-image-2.6.15-27-server, if I recall correctly) and also with the version I got from a dist-upgrade (linux-image-2.6.15-29-server). I booted from a livecd, chrooted, installed the linux-image-686 package, and rebooted. Using that kernel works fine. I tried the Dapper Alt CD last night and then installed fine and loads the newly install kernel correctly.
