In my opinion this confusion could be easily fixed if the default Alt-F10 behaviour was restored: Pressing Alt-F10 maximizes unmaximized windows and unmaximizes maximized windows. in 11.04 worked and in 11.10 in Ubuntu Help section Tips & tricks, keyboard shortcuts says ALT-F10 Maximize the current window. If the window is already maximized, unmaximize it. Something have to change. The "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings menu has an entry called "Restore Window" with a default shortcut of 'Alt+F5' in the "Window Management" section. It restores/unmaximizes the window.
