Fraser: The fix is planned as part of 0.13, which, at this point, is still timetabled for a few months from now, so you might have better luck building from source, unfortunately. Yes, I'm using nested tags, and I take it from that other bug report that it's now fixed. I'm experiencing the same problem, in the same circumstances. Whenever I edit file(s) with the external editor it constantly rewrites that/those files. In my case the procedure is: open file with RAW editor (rawtherapee), save JPG from there to filename_rw2_shotwell.jpg. At this point, everything is still fine. I then edit with external editor (GIMP) and save this back to filename_rw2_shotwell_modified.jpg at which point it starts the repeated rewriting. Reverting the edit stops it. Hi Erik. Thanks for your answer. Sorry for my bad English. I try to be more specific. About your questions: 1. Yes, only when I check to write the metadata inside the files. 2. Actually, I have tested again and it works fine with new photos. I have imported a new album from my camera and it let me edit the images and saved the metafiles without problem. But i still have the problem with my old pictures (and by old I mean any picture older than 1 week, the day I updated to Ubuntu 11.10). 3. GIMP, but i have tested with EOG also. By the way, I set Shotwell to copy the images (not to use the original place) to /home/sebaxtian/Imágenes/Fotos and I don't think the acute gives any problem because it works fine with new pictures. I have recreated the database using the metadata inside the files and I still have the problem with the old pictures, but with any new picture it works fine. I'll attach a picture to this report. Hi Sebaxtian, Sounds like a serious issue -- unfortunately we're not able to reproduce it. Could you help us understand the problem in more detail? A few follow up questions: 1. Does this only happen when you have metadata writing on (second to last checkbox in the Library tag of the Shotwell preferences) or does it happen even if metadata writing is disabled? 2. Does this happen on every image, or just certain images? If it only occurs on certain images, would it be possible for you to send us an image that exhibits this behavior? 3. What program are you opening the images in? Another test that might give us some insight on the problem is if you could run this in a debugger and pause Shotwell (with Ctrl-C) and then taking a stack trace.
