I'm going to close the bug then, thanks for pointing that out.

[Bug 86745] Re: NetworkManager applet doesn't understand device with two ip addresses

2007-02-21 Thread mlind

/usr/share/doc/network-manager/README.Debian contains excerpt:

Configuration of wireless and ethernet interfaces
~
Only devices that are *not* listed in /etc/network/interfaces or which have
been configured "auto" and "dhcp" (with no other options) are managed by NM.

So I'm using additional options and that's why NM fails to work. Too bad some
applications rely on NM to detect the online status.

[Bug 86745] Re: NetworkManager applet doesn't understand device with two ip addresses

2007-02-21 Thread mlind

Thanks for your suggestion, it didn't work though. When I unticked (disabled)
eth0 from  System->Network->Connections, my /etc/network/interfaces was
modified accordingly (auto eth0 was removed). Then I re-enabled eth0 (auto eth0
was added back), but NetworkManager Applet still refuses to find any network
devices.

When I define alias for eth0 using post-up and post-down hooks as above and
enable eth0, NetworkManager just says:
Feb 21 20:36:19 localhost NetworkManager: ^IGoing to sleep.
Feb 21 20:36:19 localhost NetworkManager: ^IWaking up from sleep.

When I comment out post-up and post-down hooks, NetworkManager fills the
syslog with action, applet finds eth0 and works normally.

I forgot to mention that I'm using Feisty and network-manager is
0.6.4-6ubuntu2.

2007-02-21 Thread Chris Burgan
Did you just install nm-applet? Usually you have to go into the System >
Administration > Networking and disable the devices by clicking on them
and hitting properties, then uncheck the "enable this connection" box.
Log out then Log back in and it should detect them/take over controlling
them.
