This is driving me nuts. I'm getting it on Debian unstable mousing in and out of google-chrome. A symptom I'm seeing is that xorg burns a lot of CPU time while it's happening, it appears to be coming from one of the closed-source nvidia libraries, and it appears to be issuing a storm of ioctl()s to /dev/nvidia0 (or nvidiactl, I forget) For comparison, I don't have this problem with twm.
