Hi! Ok, here are my results: ls /sys/class/backlight without extra boot parameters: acpi_video0 acpi_video1 intel_backlight ls /sys/class/backlight with acpi_backlight=vendor boot parameter: acer-wmi intel_backlight AND backlight control WORKS! I also tried kernel linux-image-3.4.0-030400rc1-generic_3.4.0-030400rc1.201203312035_amd64 with no extra bootparams but backlight control did not work there. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882506 Title: Brightness control broken on Acer TimelineX 3820TG using Intel IGP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882506/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882506] Re: Brightness control broken on Acer TimelineX 3820TG using Intel IGP
Carl Englund, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, please answer the following questions: + Could you please report the results following following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight ? + When you remove kernel parameter acpi_backlight=vendor, what is the results of executing at the Terminal: ls /sys/class/backlight + With acpi_backlight=vendor added, what is the result of executing at the Terminal: ls /sys/class/backlight + If you boot with kernel parameter acpi_osi=Linux can you change your backlight? + Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882506 Title: Brightness control broken on Acer TimelineX 3820TG using Intel IGP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882506/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882506] Re: Brightness control broken on Acer TimelineX 3820TG using Intel IGP
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed- upstream-v3.1-rc9'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882506 Title: Brightness control broken on Acer TimelineX 3820TG using Intel IGP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882506/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
