I changed my graphics driver from 173 to 173 with post release updates
and the screen has jumbled graphics instead of the green or black
screen,

2011-10-31 Thread Rob Frohne
Okay, I changed my graphics driver to version current-updates
(280.13-0ubuntu5) and now I see the lock screen when I resume. This
version seems to be much newer than 173, which I had installed thinking
it was the one to install because it was on top of the list, and looking
in the settings, you can't tell what the version of the current driver
is.

I think we can call this solved.

Thanks,

Rob

[Bug 882605] Re: After resume, the screen is not redrawn until the password is typed in.

2011-10-28 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 882605] Re: After resume, the screen is not redrawn until the password is typed in.

2011-10-28 Thread Rob Frohne
Hi Joseph,

I did try this kernel:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.1-oneiric/linux-image-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_i386.deb
but the problem was much worse, in that I got a black screen after the BIOS
disappeared , which never went away, and I couldn't solve that by messing with
the options in /etc/default/grub and update-grub and rebooting (signed in via
ssh from another computer), so I finally removed the upstream kernel to be able
to fill this note out. I don't know that this is the same bug I experienced
with the upstream kernel, so I guess I'll need some tips to try if you want
more information.

Thanks,

Rob
