Reinstalling usually only ever helps if the installation was corrupted in some way (e.g. due to disk corruption or someone with root privileges moving random files in /usr around). Eventually I got fed up with Banshee and switched over to Rhythmbox. The latter does not have the same stability issues (i.e., I can actually listen to my music or online radio for longer than 10-20 minutes at a time), not to mention I appreciate Rhythmbox's better GNOME Shell integration. The DAAP extension is crashing. If you disabled it, Banshee would be smooth. I have a patch that may or may not fix issues, but upstream is unresponsive, and I don't really have an idea about why it's crashing in the first place.
