[Bug 88332] Re: low volume through headphones on HP Pavilion ZT3000 (ICH4) [edgy regression]

2008-02-12 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hrm, that does pose a bit of a problem. On good faith I'm going to mark
this as 'Fix Released' per Ben's comments that a patch was committed to
the kernel tree. Obviously, if this is not the case for anyone who has
this hardware, please feel free to reopen. Thanks.

2007-04-05 Thread Daniel T Chen
James, the TLV changes in Feisty shouldn't be affecting your audio
chipset, since your codec (AD1981B) doesn't even have hooks in the
source code to the dB scaling. Your 'Headphone' mixer control above is
zeroed and muted; what effect does unmuting it and setting it to 80%
have?

2007-03-09 Thread James Troup
| 1) Verify from a cold boot whether the symptom is reproducible.

It is.

| 1A) If it is, upload the current state file
(/var/lib/alsa/asound.state) as an attachment to this bug report.

Attached.

| 1B) Then, close all applications holding the sound device, unload all
alsa modules and forcibly remove the state file [kill $(lsof -t
/dev/dsp* /dev/snd/*) sudo modprobe -r $(lsmod |grep ^snd |awk
'{print $1}') sudo rm -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state].

Done

| 1C) Then, reload the driver [sudo modprobe snd-intel8x0], and verify
whether the symptom is reproducible (no need to reboot).

This breaks... after reinserting the module, I don't get my /dev/dsp
back and I find the following in dmesg

2007-03-06 Thread Luís Moreira
I have the same problem with my laptop using both Ubuntu/Kubuntu
i386/AMD64 herd-5 live CDs, the volume from the speakers is too low and
the sound from the headphones output is somewhat louder but as a lot of
static.

Should i open a new bug or is this the same issue?
My laptop has a Intel 945PM Express chipset and a HDA Intel sound card.

Sound works great in 6.10.

[Bug 88332] Re: low volume through headphones on HP Pavilion ZT3000 (ICH4) [edgy regression]

2007-03-02 Thread Daniel T Chen
The first step is to see whether it's a stale state file or an actual
code (if so, likely sound/pci/ac97/ac97_*) regression:

1) Verify from a cold boot whether the symptom is reproducible.
1A) If it is, upload the current state file (/var/lib/alsa/asound.state) as an
attachment to this bug report.
1B) Then, close all applications holding the sound device, unload all alsa
modules and forcibly remove the state file [kill $(lsof -t /dev/dsp*
/dev/snd/*) sudo modprobe -r $(lsmod |grep ^snd |awk '{print $1}') sudo
rm -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state].
1C) Then, reload the driver [sudo modprobe snd-intel8x0], and verify whether
the symptom is reproducible (no need to reboot).
1D) If the symptom remains reproducible, then we'll begin the bisect procedure.
