Public bug reported:

The proxy support (on Edgy) istn't really complete, since WPAD isn't supported.
It would be nice to have an "automatic proxy detection" option in the proxy 
settings, which gets the proxy values with WPAD (e.g. by using 
http://wpad/wpad.dat as the source) on every startup and set the gconf and 
environment variables accordingly.
Another change would be that firefox uses these values instead of having its 
own proxy detection (this is done e.g. in SuSE) by introducin a new option "use 
system proxy setting" in firefox.
This would make the proxy support complete and fully transparent in networks 
which support WPAD , so that the user doesn't have to set up anything proxy 
related.
