Public bug reported:

After installing 11.10, Plasma crashes every time I shutdown from the plasma 
panel. This is extremely annoying. 
Also, if I just start a terminal and type 'sudo halt', it comes further, but 
hangs during the shutdown process so that I must press and hold powerbutton to 
have it shut off.

Please test such basic functionality before release.
