I have this problem on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit with Thunderbird 17.0.6 For some reason, I can not remember encountering it when I was using Ubuntu 12.10 (not sure if the TB version was different...) This sounds like a good idea to optimize search times, but this is more of a feature request and I suspect we should avoid an Ubuntu delta for it. Would you mind opening a bug/feature request against Thunderbird on Bugzilla for this?
