At the time of the original report, the server did not have a patch to
disable offscreen pixmaps. This is fixed since.

Adding only 'Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"' to the xorg.conf didn't help (me).
I found this somewhere else and added it to the same (screen)-section:
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
