[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Confirm the bug for Feisty Herd 5 Live CD on a SATA 100GB drive where I have a 20GB partitiion for WinXP and want to drop Feisty manually partitioned into 2GB partition for /boot and 60GB partition for root. Work-around - From console run: ubiquity --desktop %k gtkui --no-migration-assistant -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The same problem on Feisty Herd 5 Live CD. I am including the syslog file on this post and the debug file will be attached on next post. I also got the crash when disabling Migration Assistant... I was not able to use the altternate CD, either, due to troubles with the partitioner. -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Without the debug logs, specifically /var/log/installer/debug, I cannot proceed on fixing the crash that this bug was originally opened for. If this still occurs when Beta 1 is released, please file a new bug after running `sudo ubiquity -d` and attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/installer/debug. [Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Sorry for the lack of follow-up. I was able to install Kubuntu instead, which didn't seem to try and run any migration assistant. It's running so well (This is an Alpha release!?!?) that I don't want to mess around with it. And while there is an option to disable the migration assistant if you run it from the shell, there was never a check box from the install icon on the desktop, which surely will be the only option known for anyone new to Ubuntu/Linux. -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Ah, I'm very sorry, but I went and installed 6.10, so my system is no longer the same. Though I take it by your second message you have made some kind of progress, yes? Thank you for your reply, and your hard work, at any rate. :) -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Nosfoit, your crash is particularly interesting. Can you open up a new bug report after running ubiquity with -d and attach /var/log/installer/debug, /var/log/syslog, and the output of `sudo os- prober`? [Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
Hi. I'm having the exact same problem, but I was able to generate a /var/log/installer/debug Herd 5, AMD64 ISO, not alt. The drive I'm trying to install onto is SATA, and Windows is on the same drive. I have however created proper partitions for Linux. ** Attachment added: sudo ubiquity -d --- /var/log/installer/debug http://librarian.launchpad.net/6688058/debug -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
On Herd 5, with both i386 and AMD64 ISOs, after manually selecting partition and moving forward, I am given notice that ubiquity has crashed, the migrate documents and settings screen's text-box area stays blank white, and back and forward buttons remain grayed out. I can cancel installation and try again, but the same thing occurs every time. Exactly the same here. Cant install. Maybe you guys could include an option to disable the migration.. -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 89821] Re: Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding
There is such an option, and a few others you can see by doing sudo ubiquity --help It seems however as if the option to disable migration doesn't work. The attached file is the last part of what is outputted in the terminal when I run with migration disabled, the new experimental package thing, and some third option I forget... There should only be one left to try, so you can probably guess which it is. ** Attachment added: Output in terminal by ubiquity with migration disabled. http://librarian.launchpad.net/6710381/cerr -- Crash during Migrate Documents and Settings prevents installation from proceeding https://launchpad.net/bugs/89821 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
