[Bug 915079] Re: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes
Nathan Haines, If that is the case , then can some one update the Disk Utility software not to give the WARNING " your partition is MISALIGNED and may result in POOR PERFORMANCE" when the Extended partition is misaligned. I mean, if misalignment is the intent to save disk space then why give a warning that confuses the user. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915079 Title: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/915079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 915079] Re: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes
Hi, I have the same problem with my Ubuntu 12.04 on my HP Pavilion (I changed the hard disk with Western Digital too). I think this is the reason why, sometimes, my sistem crashes with a message like: "Could not write bytes: broken pipes". This appens while running Chrome or Steam. With Firefox things work It's a bug of the Disk Manager, or partitioning with Anvanced Format doesn't work? I have to reinstall Ubuntu? (sorry for my poor english) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915079 Title: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/915079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 915079] Re: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes
/dev/sda2 is your extended partition, which does not contain any data, just a linked list of logical partitions. This allows for more than 4 partitions using the MBR (msdos) partition table format. Since the partition is never accessed directly, it does not need to be aligned. It is misaligned by 1KB to maximize the usable space on your drive. /dev/sda1 is the partition containing your root file system and it is positioned at 1MB, which is properly aligned with your Advanced Format drive. /dev/sda5 is the partition containing your swap space and it is also properly aligned. Per Ubuntu bug guidelines, please do not confirm your own bugs--this should be done by another individual who can reproduce the bug on another system. Thank you for reporting this bug. In this case, as we've discussed, it looks like everything is working fine. Therefore, I am marking this bug as "invalid" because it appears that your hard drive was partitioned properly. Feel free to respond to this bug if new information arises. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915079 Title: Extended Partition misaligned by 1024 bytes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/915079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
