[Bug 917962] Re: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper
Thanks for all the work bisecting, Yves-Alexis! So it looks like the following commit caused the regression: efb8d21b2c6db3497655cc6a033ae8a9883e4063 Merge branch 'tty-next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/tty I can build a test kernel with commits up to: 3cb603284b3d256ae9ae9e65887cee8416bfef15 Merge branch 'hwmon-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/groeck/linux-staging That was the commit just before efb8d21b2c6db3497655cc6a033ae8a9883e4063 I'll post the location of the test kernel shortly. It would be great if folks affected by this bug can test the kernel and provide feed back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917962 Title: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/917962/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 917962] Re: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: kernel-request-3.2.0-10.17 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917962 Title: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/917962/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 917962] Re: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper
Hi James, Thanks for taking the time to test. So far it appears the regression was introduced in one of the v3.1 release candidates. You confirmed that rc2 does not have the bug, and the final version of v3.1 does have the bug. Would it be possible for you to test some of the v3.1 release candidates(rc3 -> rc10) on the following page: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ It may be quicker to skip release candidates to find the bad version faster. For example, we know that rc2 is good, so maybe test rc4. If it is good test rc6. Once you find an rc that is bad, you can then test the prior rc. If we can identify which rc introduced the regression, I can bisect that version and identify the exact commit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917962 Title: BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/917962/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To bisect and identify which commit introduced this regression, we need to figure out which kernel first started having this issue. I'd like to have you test the earliest 3.1 mainline kernel, which is: v3.1-rc2 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.1-rc2-oneiric/ I'd also like to have you test the latest 3.0 mainline kernel, which is: v3.0.17 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.17-oneiric/ It would be great if you could test those two kernels and report back. Do you know which kernel version introduced this bug? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest v3.2 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
