Re: [Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
I ran the apport-collect, but please bear in mind I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm simply a user and have never done anything like this before. I have a fear that I may loose the OS by installing the new kernel and not know how to go back to release .37 which allows me to use my wireless network card. Bear in mind that when updates come around I install and test them to make sure the problem still exists, and it always has. I then go back to the working release with Start-up Manager. Is this something I could do after installing the new Kernel or would the process be different? JF On Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 8:23 PM, Christopher M. [Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.3 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.3-rc6 fixed the issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed- upstream-v3.3-rc6'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. [Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
Just upgraded to kernel 2.6.32-39. (06 March 2012) The problem described at the top of this thread is still present in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS3 64 bit version. Can somebody take a look at this regression and enter it as a bug? [Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
I'm having the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite L675D running 10.04. The wireless chipset is RTL8192CE; I had been using the rtl8192ce-dkms package to rebuild the driver with each kernel update, and that worked fine up to the 2.6.32-37 kernel. But on updating to the 2.6.32-38 kernel, it no longer worked. Wired networking works fine with the -38 kernel (that's what I'm using to submit this comment), but no wireless. I also tried removing the rtl8192ce-dkms package and installing the compat-wireless package from linux-backports (I used the generic-pae version because I run the generic-pae kernels so all my RAM is visible). This did not work either; still no wireless with the -38 kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921141 Title: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/921141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
I have 2 other systems that need updating. They do not use the Realtek chipset... Does this bug affect all wifi cards or just the Realtek cards? I'm also running 10.04 and just updated it to 2.6.32.38 yesterday... This laptop reports: product: RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Bug 921141] Re: Update to linux-generic 2.6.32.38.44 disables network card driver
I am running 2.6.32-37-generic on an AMD-64 system. On updating to 2.6.32-38-generic the on-board network adapter can no longer be seen. On booting from old kernel it works fine. dmesg: ...
