I am closing this bug because i810switch has become obsolete with the new Intel driver which is enabled by default since Gutsy. With this driver and xrandr it should be easily possible to change monitor configuration. Is anyone else having problems with the patch? It seems to work okay for me. (Well, I have had some problems, but I don't believe they're due to the i810switch.) @lezem - Which patch are you using?
