[Bug 933509] Re: Incorrect Flash Player version

2013-01-19 Thread Bernhard74623
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 830173 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830173

I had the same problem on an Ubuntu 11.10 installation occurring some days ago.
In Ubuntu software center the flash plugin was titled Adobe Flash Plugin 10
and subtitled Adobe Flash Player plugin version 11.
My workaround was to use synaptic to install adobe-flashplugin which replaced
the formerly installed adobe-flashplugin:i386. I don't know why and how this
32bit software was installed on my 64bit system...

I agree that the root cause of the problem I reported in this bug report is the
same as what causes the troubles in Bug #830173.
I reported some further findings there.

[Bug 933509] Re: Incorrect Flash Player version

2012-02-22 Thread Felix Kuehling
I have the same problem. The Shockwave flash 10.1 plugin is actually
gnash. The Adobe flash plugin doesn't show up in Firefox at all.

I found that running update-alternatives --config mozilla-flashplugin
can fix the problem by switching the flashplugin alternative from gnash
back to the Adobe flash plugin. Something must have gone wrong with the
automatic setting of the alternative on the last update.

I don't think this is the same as bug#830173. The complaint with 830173
is about the naming of the Gnash flash plugin and/or confusing update
messages.

My complaint is that my flash plugin alternative changed automatically
after a flashplugin-installer update. I didn't even know I had an
alternative flash plugin unstalled without some serious digging. The end
user impact for me is an unexplained and severe loss in functionality.

I believe the solution for this bug would involve a change to how the
mozilla-flashplugin alternative is handled. Obviously such a change
would do nothing for bug#830173.

I cannot see this error on software center or synaptic, have you got automatic

Re: [Bug 933509] Re: Incorrect Flash Player version

2012-02-17 Thread Gary D
Thank you for looking at this for me!!

I do have automatic updates enabled, and it appears to be working because I get
updates a couple of times a week.  I always accept them.  If I run update
manager, this update does not show as a pending update.  It's only when I check
on the status of the addons within Firefox that I get this message.

Title:
  Incorrect Flash Player version

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  start:
In firefox, I click Tools / Addons /  and it reports I have shockwave flash
10.1.
Then, I click on Check to see if your plugins are out of date.  Flash 10.1
shows as out of date.
I click the Update button which takes me to an Adobe page which says Adobe
Flash Player version 11.1.102.62 is current; please do an update.
I select APT for Ubuntu, and click the Download button, which redirects me
to Ubuntu Software Center.
After waiting a long time watching the icon rotate, I give up, and click on
All Software, and search for flash.
It turns up title  Adobe Flash Plugin 10 subtitled Adobe Flash Player
plugin version 11 [ ok, which is correct? ]
I removed the version that was there [ verson 10.1 ].
I installed the current version.  I check the more info button, and it says
it was installed today.

  goto start

Apparently the software center is still installing an out-of-date
  version of adobe flash player.

  I'm on Ubuntu 11.10
