[Bug 935736] Re: /sys/firmware/efi/vars unavailable (efivars module not loaded)

2012-02-24 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
If it's built in, why efibootmgr doesn't work?
azrael@laptop616:~$ ls -slah /sys/firmware/
razem 0
0 drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 lut 24 20:25 .
0 drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 0 lut 24 20:25 ..
0 drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 lut 24 22:29 acpi
0 drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 0 lut 24 22:29 memmap
azrael@laptop616:~$ sudo efibootmgr
[sudo] password for azrael:
Fatal: Couldn't open either sysfs or procfs directories for accessing EFI
variables.
Try 'modprobe efivars' as root.
I'm using kernel 3.2.0-17-generic right now.

[Bug 935736] Re: /sys/firmware/efi/vars unavailable (efivars module not loaded)

2012-02-23 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Examining both the Oneiric 11.10 and Precise 12.04 kernel configs,
CONFIG_EFI_VARS is built into the kernel for each of those releases:

config.common.ubuntu:1536:CONFIG_EFI_VARS=y

This was built in due to Bug 837332 as debian-installer relies on having
access to efivars when installing in EFI mode.

2012-02-19 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise

** Description changed:

It looks like the module efivars is no longer built in the kernel on
Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 (both are amd64 versions).

  root@laptop616:/efi/efi# ls -slah /sys/firmware/
  razem 0
  0 drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 lut 18 20:44 .
  0 drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 0 lut 18 20:44 ..
  0 drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 lut 18 21:28 acpi
  0 drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 0 lut 18 21:28 memmap

There is no /sys/firmware/efi/vars directory and the module efivars is not
available.
This makes impossible to use grub-efi (EFI version of Grub2).

I tried running apport-collect, but it constantly hangs and never
finishes anything.
