Sorry for the late reply. I did not try to reproduce the bug for sometime now, i see that there is no issue at all at this time. Unfortunately i cannot point at the exact update that fixed this bug, but i can confirm that i can change the HUD binding using the Compizconfig Settings Manager. There are two problems with the HUD key at the moment: 1. Bug 953089 - Inaccurate timing causing the key to be ignored on some systems. 2. Unity has a limit of 250ms for HUD key tap detection. Anything more than that will be ignored. It's easy to tap a single key in under 250ms but harder to tap some combination of keys in that time. So it may be ignored. It's possible most people won't have a problem when bug 953089 is resolved.
