2012-05-12 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
You need to call 'run' from gdb. Otherwise it won't start.

I guess either the VLC UI, or the UI backend is buggy. It would be
easier to pinpoint the problem with a stack trace though (run 'gdb vlc'
then press Ctrl+C when the deadlock occurs, then 'bt' + Enter).

Re: [Bug 939168] Re: VLC hits 100% CPU after forwarding a few files in playlist

2012-03-19 Thread sundeep
Rémi,

Sorry- when I try gdb vlc, no vlc window opens. gdb seems to work, as does
vlc invoked by itself.

but

gdb vlc

stays blank. So I cannot generate a trace. I tried looking to see if my
usage was incorrect, but it seems like usage syntax is correct, but I'm not
seeing VLC fire up as expected.

Sorry!

Re: [Bug 939168] Re: VLC hits 100% CPU after forwarding a few files in playlist

2012-03-11 Thread sundeep
Rémi,

Removed vlcrc, restarted VLC, but the problem persists...

Then, added a small directory of files. VLC performs as expected.
That's when I sent the all OK test results yesterday. But, after further
testing, the issue seems to be related to the number of files in the
playlist.

My files are arranged thusly:

Top level directory: DrumClasses
Next level directory: TeacherName
Next Level directory: RhythmName
Next Level files: AssortedFiles (usually between 10 and 20 files of
various formats)

Adding dir RhythmName, I cannot make VLC freeze with a dozen or two of
files.
Adding dir RhythmName with two files of 500+Mb each, I cannot make VLC
freeze.
Adding dir TeacherName (228 files), VLC hits 100% after forwarding 4-5
files.

However: Adding dir RhythmName *ONE AT A TIME* until the playlist has
all the files under dir TeacherName does NOT make VLC freeze.

Strange behavior indeed.

Does it happen if you turn off audio (vlc --noaudio) ?

Rémi,

You are correct, this problem does NOT happen when invoked vlc --noaudio

Thanks,

2012-03-10 Thread sundeep
Sorry, I spoke too soon.

vlc --noaudio allows for several more videos to be forwarded, but then
eventually hits 100% (instead of happening at video #4, it went to #8)

2012-03-10 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
Oh wait, it also happens with VLC 1.1? Then make a copy of
~/.config/vlc/vlcrc somewhere and then erase the ~/.config/vlc
directory.

If the problem persists, it is certainly not in VLC but in some
dependent library. If on the other hand that solves the problem, please
attach the faulty vlcrc to the bug report.
