2012-04-21 Thread heian
I wish this thing is solved before ubuntu 12.04 is released.

Skype is so widely used nowadays, it will be a shame when people
install the new LTS version and find out Skype is not availalbe for them.
In my opinion it is better to warn users for it, so they can decide to delay the
their new install.

[Bug 940821] Re: SKYPE has been automatically removed from Ubuntu 12.04(amd64) during the update process and can't be reinstalled

2012-04-04 Thread cue
bakytn, thanx for your answer and this is precisely what I did as a
workaround in the beginning.

But I did not accept this workaround as a day to day practice.
Having many applications open on desktop and having to make a killall skype in
Terminal as a result of habitual closing skype's main window - in GNOME2 skype
remains in indicator bar and the desktop was cleaned up from another
application window - is a show stopper for me here. After that action one also
needs to reestablish all ongoing skype group-chat windows on each virtual
desktop etc...

As I use my laptop in business context as a working tool and as that
Skype functionality is a 'must have' INTEGRATED part in my daily
interaction, I went back to Ubuntu 10.04.

cheers,
cue

[Bug 940821] Re: SKYPE has been automatically removed from Ubuntu 12.04(amd64) during the update process and can't be reinstalled

2012-04-04 Thread cue
I just found a pretty promising hint in web:
http://cysec.org/content/missing-libraries-skype-ubuntu-1204-lts-precise-pangolin

ldd /usr/bin/skype
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xf7796000)
libasound.so.2 = /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libasound.so.2 (0xf767d000)
libXv.so.1 = not found

so the simple solution might be as described in the link above a

sudo apt-get install libxv1:i386

So, for me its to late as I switched back to 10.04 already, but for
others this might work.

cheers,
cue

I downgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 Skype is working perfectly well but I
can't see it in the menu bar. Even after installing the Skype plugin
‘Skype-Wrapper‘ , there is nothing. But maybe ‘Skype-Wrapper‘ can work
for you. Read this guide to install it:

2012-03-20 Thread cue
Well installing the static version one can download from skype.com lets me
skype, BUT I have no Icon indicator anymore.
Thus as soon as I close the skype main window, skype remains running but is not
reachable via Front End any more. Open skype again leads into the mess of a
double login...

Would be cool to have it available in the canonical partner repositories
again.
