Public bug reported:

The situation: I am teaching informatics and want to introduce Ubuntu to
my students . So I start live CD with Edgy (but the same problem is with
other versions), and system boots. But - it boots in maximum resolution
(also in safe graphics mode).. The problem is, that computer has old
monitor which does not support high resolution.

Fortunately, I have a projector and I am able to open appropriate menu
and change the resolution to 1024x768. But this is not very good
introduction to Linux for my "Windows infected" students... :-((

A simple question: why the hell is Ubuntu started in maximal resolution?
It it live CD anyway. It should be started in smaller resolution in
"safe graphics mode" at least.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
