[Bug 945735] Re: problem with shutdown ubuntu 11.10 x64

2012-07-19 Thread Danillo
I'm having this problem with 12.04 too and I'm also using bumblebee, but
it doesn't always happen, but it happens often. Could bumblebee have
something to do with it?

[Bug 945735] Re: problem with shutdown ubuntu 11.10 x64

2012-07-19 Thread Aaron Sun
I found a temporary solution:

sudo cat /etc/default/grub

#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=acpi=off splash
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=force

sudo update-grub

[Bug 945735] Re: problem with shutdown ubuntu 11.10 x64

2012-05-07 Thread Giuseppe
Ubuntu 11.10 on Dell XPS 15z. Dual Boot with Windows 7 Home, bumblebee stable
installed.
I have the same problem as Aaron, when i try to shutdown the computer (either
from the main menu or from a terminal) i have to force it by pressing the power
button. This problem started after the latest update about 4 days ago. Now i'm
using the 3.0.0.19 kernel from the official packages. After this update i'm
experiencing also other strange problems, and i'm not sure about their
relationship with the one here discussed. For example i cannot run succesfully
the update-grub command: it does not terminate (it starts but does not
terminate, and it is blocked on Found memtest86+ image:
/boot/memtest86+.bin). Another problem is that sometimes i cannot kill a
command (via CTRL+C keyboard combination), it seems that the OS does not catch
the input. I experience this problem when i try to kill update-grub command
too. Final I'm not able to succesfully uninstall virtualbox package, it blocks
on Stopping virtualbox kernel modules.
As i said i really don't know if all these problems are related each other, but
i hope there will be a solution soon.

[Bug 945735] Re: problem with shutdown ubuntu 11.10 x64

2012-03-05 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.3 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.3-rc6 fixed the issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.3-rc6'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

I installed v3.3-rc6-precise, but ubuntu can't boot any more, I'm now
trying to restore to the previous kernel.
