[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric

2012-03-06 Thread Evan Broder
Because packages from backports are not installed by default, we prefer
to only use backports as a way to offer new features, not fix bugs. Bugs
in packages should be fixed through the SRU process
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates), so that all users of the
package can benefit from the fix.

I'm going to go ahead and retarget this as an SRU bug. I'm happy to
sponsor the fix; all I need from you is an isolated patch that fixes the
crash, and a few sentences for each of the 5 points in step 2 of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure - you can put
the writeup in the bug description.

** Also affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu Oneiric)
   Importance: Undecided

** Changed in: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Fix Released

** Changed in: oneiric-backports
   Status: New = Won't Fix

[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric

2012-03-06 Thread Thomas Ward (EvilPhoenix)
Broder: This was fixed in an upstream revision of the program, and I am
not able to narrow down what upstream changes were made to the program.
The only solution I would see at this time, is to upload the package
with the latest versioning numbers. That latest version exists in
Precise and in Debian Sid, but not in Oneiric. I'd have to diff the
entire source, and from what I can tell, there were several other
changes to the upstream between the filing of the referenced bug, and
the version in Precise.

As I understand the system, this is not usually done.

[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric

2012-03-06 Thread Evan Broder
Normally we prefer to isolate just the necessary changes to fix the bug.
In this case, though, the entirety of the 3.2.1 release contains
bugfixes. In these cases, we can upload the new release as an SRU.

However, I made a mistake opening an SRU task on this bug, since bug
#884619 is already tracking the original problem, so I'm going to close
out this bug and we can move the discussion there.

** No longer affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu)
