This happened to me after a fresh install of beta2. Everything was well and good (used for days with Unity) before I installed xfce4. I used xfce4 for a few days, then tried to switch back. I couldn't select the Unity WM option (unclickable) in lightdm. So I completely uninstalled xfce4 and now lightdm doesn't show any options (should go automatically to Unity) but just loops back to itself. I'm seeing the same on Beta 2, having just upgraded from Precise. Main account mike cycles back to lightdm greeter. Guest account is fine. Created a new account (logged in as root from the console), which was also fine. Just checked after updating to beta 2. Yes, its still an issue, trying to log into my account via lightdm just cycles back to...lightdm.
