After reinstalling all packages I could think of having something to do with it, probably mainly libgnomekbd, this seems to be working again. Unfortunately no. Reinstalling that specific package seems to solve nothing. And no, I'm not using the accessibility options. Any ideas of other packages that might need reinstalling? I think this is also caused by a broken gconf schema. I have something similarly broken. Repeat used to be working ok on my desktop. If I choose "repeat keys" in "keyboard preferences", every keypress generates two characters, no more, no less. I do not have "enable keyboard accessibility" enabled.
