[Bug 960535] Re: vpn submenu suddenly empty

2012-05-15 Thread Eloy Paris
There seem to be lots of reports about this same behavior. Bug #930563
is the earliest bug I've been able to find, but I am still looking for
the first report, i.e. master bug.

But then the strace doesn't differ much from the strace of a "working"
nm-applet.

[Bug 960535] Re: vpn submenu suddenly empty

2012-04-15 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Looking at the menus shows that ALL submenus are affected (not only "VPN
Connections"): "more networks" is also empty.

When that happens, the functionality is also reduced: "Connection
information" doesn't do anything, "Edit Connections" doesn't do
anything, nothing works.. I also cannot disconnect from my current WLAN.

[Bug 960535] Re: vpn submenu suddenly empty

2012-04-13 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Well, it's most likely a side-effect of a memory leak. I changed the way
the menus got updated again during the release, but we also (again)
fixed a number more of leaks in code. I think this has perhaps been
really fixed now.

There's just one report I had of such issues after running a VPN for a
number of hours. What would be useful would be to also have valgrind
logs; which might help identifying the issue.

Stopping nm-applet and restarting it makes the menu work again.
But as to why it suddenly became unusable is unclear.
