I have got the IPEHR 0x0100, too. But in my case, it has been triggered by LibreOffice Writer while highlighting a word by spell/grammar checking. Could somebody build a deb package with that patch? I'd be more than happy to test it! Although this issue is very annoying as it impedes to use matlab at all, I found a (non ideal) workaround that may be useful for you as well, which is to only use opengl by software (type 'opengl software' in the matlab console at startup).
