These apps work in Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS using GNOME on Wayland. This still exists in precise when using the latest GTK git, somehow these paticular apps don't detect the existing Wayland backend, unless they are started with gdb, strace, or ltrace. Extra fun: They both work when I run them through strace. And still don't work when I run them without strace.
