*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 638845 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638845 The issue is that for whatever reason Ubuntu defaults Qt applications run as root to that style. You can fix the issue by installing the qt4-qtconfig package, then running "gksudo qtconfig-qt4" and selecting the GTK theme instead.
