[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705
I just installed kernel 3.2.0-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP as part of the normal update process. Good news. I now have sound on headphone front socket (and on rear speaker connection too). The hardware test speaker feature on the Gnome sound settings facility still doesn't work however. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985145 Title: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/985145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705
[BACK TO SQUARE 1] So, having got it all working, the new linux kernel headers arrived. 3.2.0-24-generic #37 upgrade to #38 and now it has all stopped working . Argh... (check with 'uname -r' and 'uname -v') FWIW: people used to the terminal alsa panel may have noticed my confusion with this 'm' command that I was advised to use. I have now worked out that 'm' is 'mute' - Why should setting and cancelling mute work at the CLI but not in the GUI with alsa-config? I have no idea. Anyway, proper kernel fix still needed please, it seems.
[SOLUTION / WORK-AROUND] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/385076 Message #6 I found that similar worked for me - At terminal, I ran 'alsamixer'. The Via VT1705 showed by default. At the interface I cursored over to make 'front' highlight in red then pressed 'm' as indicated in the other bug report. The sound control GUI in 'system-settings' , when run simultaneously for testing, interacted with alsamixer immediately. Cards confusingly showed as toggling on and off. Ended up doing this all a few times. NOT tweaking 'Master' in the terminal UI seemed to be the final trick. Hours of messing about to get finally here But it works for now. ~ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985145 Title: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/985145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705
alsa-driver aparently is not a package, so apport-collect didn't work. Also the DKMS driver didin't work. I think it installed ok because now there are more controls on alsamixer but leaving them on default or raising them to 100 and unmutting them didn't work.

[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705
alsa-driver is a source package, and when a bug is filed against it, apport-collect attaches audio-specific information (like it did in this bug). I think the next step is to try headphones. ** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985145 Title: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/985145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
