[Bug 986724] Re: [Samsung NP900X3B-A01US] Lid state changes not detected

2014-05-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
adampaetznick, could you please test the latest mainline kernel via
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc6-utopic/ and
advise to the results?

** Description changed:

- Neither lid open nor lid close events are detected.
- Running 'cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state' always returns 'state: open'.
+ Neither lid open nor lid close events are detected. Running:
+ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state
+
+ always returns:
+ state: open
+
+ This would seem to cause issues with suspend/resume.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Suspend via GUI or command line.

2014-05-25 Thread adampaetznick
Suspend works just fine from GUI/command-line, as it always has. As of
14.04, suspend also works reliably upon closing the lid. Wake-from-
suspend does not work upon opening the lid. I have to press the power
button.

I confirm that lid close events are now reliably detected with 14.04.
Lid open events are apparently not detected, though. No wake from
suspend when opening the lid.

adampaetznick, if this is a regression or not would need to be known.
Testing Oneiric would help find this out. If you can reproduce the lid
state change problem in a supported live environment, then a testing
Oneiric live environment would be acceptable.

[Bug 986724] Re: [Samsung NP900X3B-A01US] Lid state changes not detected

2013-09-26 Thread adampaetznick
Hi Christopher,

I would tend to agree with petrosyan. This is my primary work machine
and so it is very cumbersome to install and test such an old release.
Furthermore, it seems unlikely to yield any useful information. I think
is very unlikely that lid-detection worked properly in 11.10 but not in
12.04 since the NP900X3B came out in 2012. Perhaps you can explain the
reasoning behind your request?

Hi Christopher,

Support for Ubuntu 11.10 was officially ended on 9 May 2013. I am not
sure that not being able to do regression tests on such an ancient
release means that the bug report should be marked incomplete.

[Bug 986724] Re: [Samsung NP900X3B-A01US] Lid state changes not detected

2013-09-22 Thread Ayberk Özgür
My lid close events started getting detected recently. I have the event
trigger sleep; however, I have to wait approximately 10 seconds after
physically closing the lid before it happens. My configuration is:

-Samsung NP900X4C
-Kubuntu 12.04.2
-Kernel 3.10.4-031004-generic
-BIOS P08ABK

My /etc/default/grub has the following line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"

Still, lid open events are not detected no matter how long I wait during
the sleep. The power button has to be pushed in order to wake the
machine up.

@adampaetznick, tested with 3.11.rc5-sausy and the bug still exists.
Easy to reproduce:
-disconnect AC
-close the lid
- wait for suspend (5-10 seconds)
- connect and disconnect AC plug few times (2-3 times). every time led changes
color from green to orange.
- wake system from suspend
- close lid again (no suspend)

[Bug 986724] Re: [Samsung NP900X3B-A01US] Lid state changes not detected

2013-08-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
adampaetznick, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc4

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Using the Samsung BIOS update tool, I see that the latest BIOS version
is P10AAH. I have had this version installed for many months. Same
behavior is observed. Lid close is not detected.

Output of sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
is:
