Public bug reported:

On April 23rd I updated my system. New versions of the kernel and linux-
libc-dev were installed. Since the update I can't search in Synaptic -
as soon as I type the second letter, it crashes. When I start Synaptic
from the terminal I get a "segmentation fault" error message after the
crash.
